An artist cannot fail; it is a success to be one-Charles Cooley I read it somewhere that an artist is not paid for his labour but for his vision and that stands true for the young and the beautiful Aparneet Mann, who is the recipient of the Sohan Qadri fellowship awarded by the Punjab Lalit Kala Academi this year. Aparneet, who is also a mother of two, was selected for the award after she was interviewed by internationally renowned artists- Sudarshan Shetty and Bose Krishnamachari on the basis of her visual vocabulary and artistic journey. Besides being an artist, Aparneet is also a teacher at Strawberry Fields High School, Chandigarh. The Sohan Qadri fellowship of Rs 2 Lakh is aimed at providing talented artists from Punjab with a platform to enable them to continue their research to develop new ideas in their respective disciplines and also to promote and recognize their talent.
Unable to contain her excitement on winning the award, Aparneet chuckles, “I had not in my wildest dreams thought of being the winner this year. Infact being a busy mother and a teacher I had almost lost all hopes of carrying forward my journey as an artist. So this fellowship is instrumental in giving me fresh hopes of carrying forward with my art and I am determined to do that now.”
Aparneet, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kala Bhavana, Visva-Bharati and Shantiniketan and a Masters of Fine Arts from Government College of Art, Sector 10, Chandigarh has her work steeped in emotions with multimedia being her primary discipline. The artist is also a certification holder from the Museam of Modern Art in New York.
