Netflix - Second Home For Bollywood
Glimpse|February - March 2020
It has been more than a year and a half since strained marriages and sexual hiccups of Lust Stories replaced the uncanny horrors of Komolika in ‘Kasauti Zindagi ki 2’. Netflix is now a part of every household, every conversation, one point solution of your boredom; “So, what have you been watching lately on Netflix?" a solution for any lull conversation too! From the wobbly boat of confusion of what to watch to re-watching episodes from your favourite sitcom. the one you must have watched a zillion times.
Shivika Sharma

Netflix has dramatically changed the way we pursue entertainment by giving us the pleasure of binge-watching. Like who wants to wait for one whole week for the next episode to know what happens next? Of course we want to know it now. It gives one enormous choice, the ability to watch at their convenience.

India is by no means a saturated market - and with its almost insatiable appetite for original content has brought to younger Indians with the rich and varied output of the country’s massive domestic film industry since NETFLIX markets itself as THE destination for content creators and being a giant source of entertainment has also become a huge platform for diverse and original projects in collaboration with Bollywood directors. Dominated by Indian Web series and Bollywood movies directors like Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, and Vikramaditya Motwane have produced and will be further producing content for Netflix in 2020. I have found a home in Netflix” are the words of Anurag Kashyap himself who has been on Netflix for quite some time and has directed some of the most famous series and movies such as Sacred Games and Lust Stories. Karan Johar also stepped into Netflix with his digital content studio, Dharmatic Entertainment coming into partnership with Netflix. He has also been a part of anthologies Lust Stories and Ghost Stories along with Dibakar Banerjee. The fearless and ambitious work of Bollywood Directors gives the right amount of tug to the audience and makes it the market for further development and success. Actor Anil Kapoor gives his earnest opinion on working with Netflix again saying, Attempting your craft on a completely different platform is both exciting and daunting, and it's a challenge I'd take on only with a committed streaming service like Netflix.

With exquisite production values — dramatic visualization and severe color palettes — these two segments showcase the technical prowess of contemporary Indian cinema and the acting talents of a new wave of performers which gives Netflix and the Bollywood to go a step further.

However, today the scenario has changed drastically with mobile gaming taking the front seat when it comes to entertainment. Although easy access to the internet and fast penetration of smartphones is the primary reason for a boost in the industry, the credit is also shared by online gaming sites that strive to take the industry far beyond our anticipations.
