Hail! INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY: SERENE BUT SCATTERED
Glimpse|March 2021
Two hundred years of British slavery and seventy-three years as an Independent democratic nation, most people in India still grappled with Kipling’s term ‘White Man’s Burden.’
Amit Kumar

Where Are We?

Even access to the advanced and smart technological knowledge or smart education system remained ineffective to lessen the white man’s burden. If it weren’t for British officers or social reforms taken place in pre-independence, we would have still considered widows a good flammable substance, i.e. Sati System. One can trace back such instances of inhumanity or the animality demonstrated publicly in the slaughter games organized in the Colosseum, where the audience use to thirst to see the bloodshed despite having the choice to save the fallen gladiator.

The country is about to burst with inspiring quotes and greetings to celebrate International Women’s Day on coming Monday, i.e. the 8th of March, meanwhile such is the ambience of the society where a teenage boy was paraded naked in the streets for having a conversation with a girl (Tarn Taran, Punjab 2019); 22– year-old woman committed suicide as her husband tortured her for dowry (Ahmedabad, Gujarat 2021); a father beheaded his 17-year-old daughter to save his honour (Hardoi, UP. 2021); another father abducted and strangulated her 18-year-old daughter to death as she eloped with a Dalit boy (Dausa, Rajasthan 2021).

KIRANA IN LUXURY MARKET

Founded by Haresh Mirpuri, Aranyani has adopted the original Indian concept of the kirana (‘Atelier’ in the European parlance) in the luxury market. Here, the focus is not just profiteering, but creating a positive impact at every touch point. In the initial days, the brand utilized its atelier to create beautiful hand-painted bags which were released as “Finding Your Roots”. While the collection was well received by the media, art lovers and end users alike, the designs were too unique for the product to be used as an ‘everyday bag’.
