EVELYN SHARMA

She is cute, she is sassy and she is definitely here to stay.

Model-turned-actress turned-entrepreneur, Evelyn Sharma, who feels less German-more Indian, hopes to inspire women to love themselves. From the bombshell in Divya Khosla Kumar’s directorial debut Yaariyan, to the ditzy girl opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Yeh Jawani Hai Diwani, to the tough cop alongside Prabhas and Neil Nitin Mukesh in Saaho, Evelyn Sharma has created ripples in the Indian film Industry, Bollywood!

Tell us something about yourself.

I grew up in a small town in Germany where I learned to enjoy the simple things in life.

Tell us a bit about your childhood in Germany and how you like to spend the holidays.

I was excited to be spending pre Christmas time in Germany after many many years. I remember growing up and going to church; everything is lit up and the choir is singing! During the holidays, I like to spend time with my family and friends. I like to reflect on the past year and get ready for the one to come. Plus, eat a lot of yummy vegan Christmas food, drink wine and be jolly. I was so happy when my shooting schedule for EUROMAXX in Berlin got fixed for December, there’s really nothing like Christmas in Europe!

Tell us about your Bollywood journey so far. Is it hard making a mark in the industry?

Yes, lots of people dream of making it in Bollywood, and the competition is high. I think my secret is that I stayed true to myself. Enjoying my journey has always been more important to me than fighting for that one big role. I love all my films, more than 10 in a few years, and I’m sure my children will love them one day too. I believe personal freedom, happiness, and empowering others is the greatest success in life, and so I feel very successful. I never really had this plan of becoming an actress, so everything feels like a gift to me. Of course hard work is what gets you there! But a small portion of luck and meeting the right people is the deciding factor. There are certain things in life, which you cannot plan. I came to India on a trip to discover my roots and ended up in some of the biggest films like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Saaho, started a charity foundation Seams For Dreams, and my own business WIP Creatives.

A strategy that you always use to make your decisions in Personal or Professional life?

Sleep over it. If you still feel the same way about it tomorrow, it’s probably the right decision to make. But wisdom does not come from sleeping alone, so always learn something new and find good advisors both in your personal and professional life.
