The influence of fashion is often debated. Yet, fashion's greatest strength isn't just its ability to motivate change and raise awareness, but also its power to spur creativity. And no one shows that off better than Dior's creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, who has demonstrated a deft blend of imagination and respect with every collection she has created for the maison in the past six years.
SS'23 was no different. To craft a collection that speaks of a connection between heritage and femininity, Chiuri started from the maison's archives. She chanced upon a map of Paris, printed on a scarf, which was centred around the Avenue Montaigne. This led her to the Tuileries Garden, which had been commissioned by Queen Catherine de Medici, an important figure in French history. Medici and Chiuri share a connection - both women are Italians who had moved to France out of duty - Medici for her country and Chiuri for Dior.
