25 Ladies We Love

Many are names you know, several hail from the same clan, one a child, and another a figment of the wildest imagination. Come meet everyone!

Mary Lim, Hayden Ng, Tracy Lee & Evelyn Mak

MICHELLE OBAMAA

As US First Lady, Michelle Obama launched Let’s Move, a campaign to address childhood obesity, for which she walked the talk by showcasing her gruelling g workouts on Instagram. With those super-toned arms and shoulders, she lent clout to American fashion by donning brands such as Michael Kors, Jason Wu, Calvin Klein, and even Target. She’s still politically active, encouraging g women to vote in the 2018 mid-term elections.

KOKI,

It can be said that the cover girl of ELLE Singapore July 2018 has been famous for all her 15 years. In her exclusive interview and photo shoot, the younger daughter of J-drama king Kimura Takuya and retired J-pop p idol Kudo Shizuka shared, “It is important to believe in myself and continue to move forward. It’s something I learnt from my parents, of whom I’m very proud.” Her quest for global domination has begun on a sparkling note as Bvlgari’s youngest-ever ambassador.

HA JI WON

In an industry filled with cute and often clueless young things, K-drama queen Ha Ji Won has forged her own path by portraying headstrong characters (Secret Garden, Empress Ki).

She has had to tap on personal strength when her younger brother Jun Tae Soo committed suicide in January. Only two years ago, her father had died from a heart attack.

Ji Won’s heart for the needy means she often takes a leading role in charity projects. She’s pledged to donate her cornea and given $138,000 to ferry disaster victims. She’s also an ambassador for Operation Smile, which provides surgery for kids with facial deformities.

MEGHAN MARKLE, KATE MIDDLETON & PRINCESS CHARLOTTE

With great privilege comes great responsibility, and sisters-in-law Duchess of Sussex and Duchess of Cambridge rose spectacularly to the challenge.

Former actress Megs hasn’t given up her dresses and suits, although instead of sexy strapless and sleeveless designs she now sports elegant and impeccably cut pieces. Her happy-ever-after was nearly derailed when her father Thomas was discovered to have staged photos for the paparazzi just before her wedding to Harry, which he eventually didn’t attend.

Kate, meanwhile, continues to wow women everywhere with her sensible sense of style. The art history graduate is a master of high-low looks due to her stint as an accessories buyer with a fashion label. Whether in Issa, Zara, Erdem, Dolce & Gabbana or Alexander McQueen (who could forget that wedding gown?), the future Queen of England is an eye catching presence.

She’s only three but Princess Charlotte is hot on the heels of her mum and aunt in terms of style cred. Her irresistibly cute getup of floral-printed baby doll dress, knit cardigan, hair bow and Mary Janes belies a cheeky temperament not unlike that of her uncle Harry. Like, on her way to Prince Louis’ christening, she reminded reporters: “You’re not coming.”

KIM & THE OTHER KARDASHIANS

Kim Kardashian turned a leaked sex tape into fame and fortune, culminating in the reality TV hit Keeping Up with the Kardashians and getting her family into the game. We know her, Kourtney, Khloe, Kendall, Kylie and Kris better than our real neighbours; like the siblings, we have had our own struggles with douche bags, big butts, and squabbles with mum. This strong-headed lass needs no public approval for those barely-there outfits, much less a nude selfie: “I am empowered by my body…I am empowered by showing the world my flaws and not being afraid of what anyone is going to say about me. And I hope that through this platform I have been given, I can encourage the same empowerment for girls and women all over the world.” Married to rapper Kanye West and now a mother of three, Kim donates 10 per cent of her annual income to charity. Which can come up to a fair bit, considering she earned $63 million in 2017.
