La historia de Vellani no es la común de una chica que sueña con conquistar Hollywood. A sus 16 años decidió inscribirse en el programa de teatro de su escuela secundaria y, al poco paso del tiempo, la nacida en Canadá y de ascendencia paquistaní, se sintió abrumada por las exigencias del arte de la actuación, por lo que no sospechaba que un día podría ser parte del MCU. ¿O sí?
“Cuando eres adolescente, te piden que definas cuál será tu entera carrera profesional y eso, al tener 16 años, te genera mucha presión. Mi área de confort era Marvel con sus cómics y películas. Mis conversaciones giraban en torno a Marvel con amigos y extraños. Incluso trazaba mapas en mi recámara con mis teorías de cómo serían las historias y personajes antes que cada película saliera y analizaba cuadro por cuadro cada avance fílmico en mi computadora, buscando pistas. ¡Era una experta obsesionada!”, comparte Vellani en entrevista Zoom con Cosmo desde su recámara en Ontario, Canadá.
Amante del cine hablado en todo tipo de idiomas, Vellani aprendió del llamado séptimo arte en un curso de su secundaria. El cartel de Cléo de 5 a 7 (1962) colgado en su dormitorio, honra a la directora de la Nueva Ola Francesa, Agnès Varda (1928-2019), a quien Iman considera su favorita porque le tocan sus emociones. A unos centímetros, la imagen de Iron Man de Robert Downey Jr., es el personaje y estrella predilecta de la dueña de la habitación, a quien –según confiesa– le ha dedicado suspiros por años.
