Hace unos días, mi sobrina, quien cumpliría años, me dijo que celebraría su fiesta en Roblox, una plataforma digital donde los usuarios juegan y crean multitud de universos, platican entre ellos, construyen sus propias casas y sí, tienen sus fiestas. Es lo de hoy tía, ¿quieres que te enseñe?, me preguntó y le tomé la palabra.
Entonces, me di cuenta: lo que hemos visto en películas o series de ciencia ficción como Black Mirror o The Matrix, nos alcanzó. Una prueba de ello es el cambio de nombre que Mark Zuckerberg hizo a Facebook: Meta, justamente se refiere a esta red cuyo objetivo es ampliar las posibilidades de conectar a sus usuarios.
El Metaverso es ya tan omnipresente como el mismo internet, no por nada marcas de moda, artistas y grupos musicales han participado en esta realidad virtual (VR por sus siglas en inglés) mediante la apertura de boutiques, conciertos exclusivos y hasta subastas de obras de arte, incluso desde su propia plataforma. Pero, vayamos por partes...
¿QUÉ ES EL METAVERSO?
La idea en sí no es nueva y fue mencionada por Neal Stephenson, escritor de ciencia ficción, en su novela de 1992, Snow Crash. Ahí, el autor nos presenta un mundo virtual en 3D, con personas representadas por su avatar, que pueden interactuar entre sí o con otros personajes creados de manera artificial.
Entre las características principales del Metaverso destaca que es posible explorarlo desde una computadora, consola de videojuegos o dispositivo móvil, siempre y cuando estos permitan el uso de gráficos y sonido en 3D. La intención es que te sientas más presente en este entorno y presumiblemente menos presente en el mundo real; claro, con un cuerpo y rostro creados por ti.
