The Millennial Sex Slump
Cosmopolitan Philippines|December 2017

What’s got this generation down and out instead of hot and heavy?

Chandra Pepino
The Millennial Sex Slump

Young adulthood used to play out like a cocaine-fueled music video: think angsty, anxiety-addled teens chugging punch in the kitchen while a group of ravers are in the living room banging heads (or locking lips) over obnoxious ‘80s synthpop. Popping E, sneaking out their parents’ cars, and engaging in premarital sex all served the overarching rebellious Bon Jovi narrative. Our moms and dads, God bless them, knew how to partay, and they did it like there was no tomorrow. But 2017 is a completely different world. Sounds like Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa’s “Young, Wild, and Free” can take several seats, because today’s millennials are hella tame.

Take Control Of Your Birth Control

imagine this queue at your local drugstore: Up front, in a hushed voice, a 24-year-old asks about the availability of her birth control pills. An embarrassed teenager clutches a box of condoms in her hands. A 30-year-old, ashamed to buy lube, fills her basket with other things she doesn’t really need. But let’s be real— you didn’t have to imagine that hard. Plenty of women aren’t keen on going public about their RH woes, but if we want accessible birth control, step one is being unafraid to speak up.
