MONOCHROME MAGIC

Monochrome Fashion is often assumed to refer to black and white clothing. However, mono or one and chrome or colour actually refers to wearing single colour clothing. It may mean wearing the same colour as top and bottom or wearing colours of the same family or shade to maintain uniformity.

Monochrome is all about uniformity and subtle colour play in most cases to create a different fashion language. Today, monochrome not only rules the ramp, but has also taken over various aspects of life, and courtesy of some prominent designer moves over the years, monochrome fashion no more refers to just black and white.

MONO DRESSING IS A REVOLT AGAINST MIXING AND MATCHING AND WE SEE IT POP UP IN DIFFERENT WAYS EVERY SEASON.

GETTING THERE

Saint Laurent’s Spring/Summer 2009 Ready-to-Wear show brought to the front a big wave of monochrome outfits that transcended comfort, simplicity and style. Then it was Victoria Beckham’s Spring/Summer 2014 Ready-to-Wear looks that brought a new crispness and shape to monochrome. Much recently, Max Mara’s, signature monochromatic looks and shows drove the point home.
