FROM THE HOSPITAL corridors of Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital as Dr. Cristina Yang, via some globetrotting spy games, to a professor at Pembroke University – that’s where you’ll find Sandra Oh, starring as Professor Ji-Yoon Kim in The Chair, now streaming on Netflix.
Kim is the first woman of colour to be elected as the head of a struggling English department at the elite university.
During the six-episode series, Ji-Yoon tries to juggle the challenges of her new job, parent her spunky adopted daughter Ju Ju (Everly Carganilla), while negotiating her relationship with her crush and friend, Bill Dobson (Jay Duplass).
“It’s always great to play a character who has a great challenge. [Also] Jay is an amazing partner who has such a wide band of experience of filmmaking,” Sandra said in a recent interview.
