PARIS, THE PRINCESS BRIDE
YOU South Africa|2 December 2021
The hotel heiress finally found her Prince Charming and their wedding was every bit as extravagant as you’d imagine
MAXINE PETERS

SHE was always expected to have an over-the-top wedding. This is Paris Hilton after all – the woman once dubbed Barbie in Balenciaga, the ditsy darling of reality TV, the shamelessly hedonistic heiress to a fortune.

Money is no object and opulence is her middle name. But even by Paris’ standards, her nuptials were quite something: a three-day extravaganza, including four designer wedding dresses, hundreds of snowy white roses, dozens of celebrities and enough wowness to make even the most jaded jaw drop.

Paris waited until she was 40 before walking down the aisle and she was going to make it an occasion to remember.

In her own words, she’d had a long list of “hungry tigers” in her past: models, actors, rock stars, trust-fund babies, club rats and douchebags, as she put it.

Then finally her Prince Charming had come along in the form of venture capitalist Carter Reum and she was going to celebrate big time.

“Today I’m writing this reflection as a new wife,” Paris said in a blog post on her website a day after exchanging vows. “I can’t believe it. I’ve lived a very unique life in the public eye over the last two decades and throughout the years, I was always searching for my partner.

“I was looking for my equal. Someone who wasn’t fascinated with ‘Paris Hilton’ but instead someone who saw the real me and loved me for me.

“I’m so proud of my love story with Carter and even more excited that it’s just beginning. My next chapter as a wife is going to be the best yet.”

THE NUPTIALS

Festivities kicked off at the mansion in Bel Air, Los Angeles, once owned by Paris’ late grandfather, hotel magnate Barron Hilton. It’s now the property of tech billionaire Eric Schmidt, former CEO of Google.

Gigantic pink flowers were arranged on the lawns in the pair’s initials and white roses adorned the enormous marquee erected on the grounds.

Paris walked down the aisle to a rendition of Elvis Presley’s I Can’t Help Falling in Love in a long-sleeved floral lace dress designed by Oscar de la Renta, which was crafted and hand-embroidered by eight stylists over 1 400 hours.

“I felt more like a princess than ever before,” Paris said afterwards.

The groom looked dapper in a classic navy tuxedo from Ermenegildo Zegna.

The bride’s younger sister, Nicky Hilton Rothschild (38), served as her maid of honour in a long-sleeved pink lace gown.

Carter’s sister, Halle Hammond, was a bridesmaid; as was Tessa Hilton, wife of Paris’ brother Barron.

Three cousins, Farrah Aldjufrie, Whitney Davis and Brooke Wiederhorn, made up the rest of her bridal gang.

Her flower girls, Nicky’s daughters Lily-Grace (5) and Teddy (3), were adorable in customised Oscar de la Renta floral frocks.

“I remember my first two steps down the aisle so clearly,” Paris says. “Getting to see the faces of all my loved ones and closest friends out in the crowd, and all their eyes on me. Then seeing Carter’s handsome face.”

Carter teared up as his bride made her way through the room and they gazed into each other’s eyes and read their own vows.

German singer Kim Petras performed one of Paris’ own songs, Stars are Blind, and the new husband and wife walked out as a string quartet playing Pharrell Williams’ Happy.
