SATURDAY / BBC1 / 8.20PM / DRAMA

When Casualty returned to our screens in January following an extended break, a sensitively handled coronavirus special showcased why the BBC1 medical drama is still at the top of its game in its 35th year.

Life on the front line has never been tougher but a ray of light has been the relationship between fan favorites Jacob Masters and Connie Beauchamp – with us hoping that one day they might get wed!

However, that’s looking unlikely in the near future, as, after one knock-back too many, Jacob seems to be moving on with nurse Tina Mollett.

Here, in an exclusive interview, star Charles Venn, 47, alias clinical nurse manager Jacob, and Amanda Mealing, 53, AKA Queen of the ED Connie, tell us why the drama remains a must-see and what to expect for their characters over the coming months…

Casualty just keeps going from strength to strength. What five words would you choose to describe it at the moment?

AMANDA Bold, brave, brutal, beautiful and emotional…

CHARLES Intense, revealing, educational, painful, and truthful.

The superb pandemic special (available on BBC iPlayer ) is tipped for a BAFTA nod later this year. What did that episode mean to you personally?
