Winsome but (whisper it!) slightly wishy-washy Disney heroines have been firmly relegated to the past, thanks to Frozen’s spirited siblings Elsa and Anna.
The plucky pair showed strength, sass, and sisterly devotion when the smash-hit animation launched in 2013. But although Elsa (voiced by Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell) got their happy ever after, it wasn’t the end of the fairy tale…
Last year’s enchanting follow-up, Frozen II, saw the sisters embark on another adventure to learn more about Elsa’s powers, accompanied by Anna’s ice-cutter suitor Kristoff and his reindeer Sven (both voiced by Jonathan Groff), plus snowman Olaf (Josh Gad).
Now, as the sequel premieres on Disney+ and Sky Premiere from Friday 3 July, Idina, 49, and Kristen, 39, explain why it may outshine the original…
How did you feel when Frozen II was first mooted?
KRISTEN: The best projects are the ones that have creative pixie dust on them – that’s the magic of Frozen. So getting the same team back together was joyful. But it’s not ‘episode two’ – it’s a much bigger adventure.
IDINA: This film is better than the first. I love that it maintains these two incredible, powerful sisters.
