SHERIDAN SMITH: BECOMING MUM

NEW TUESDAY / ITV / 9PM / FACTUAL

Sheridan Smith is one of the nation’s favourite TV stars, but it’s no secret that life hasn’t always dealt the award-winning singer and actor an easy hand. Her beloved father, Colin, died in 2016 – bringing back painful memories of the death of her older brother, Julian, from cancer when Sheridan was just eight – and the loss brought on mental-health challenges.

But since meeting her fiancé, insurance broker Jamie Horn, in 2018, and giving birth to their baby son, Billy, in May this year, Sheridan’s life has turned around.

She’s loving being a mum and her career is reaching new heights, too, thanks to her dazzling Vera Lynn medley, performed as part of the BBC’s VJ Day commemorations, as well as her role in ITV’s Isolation Stories, in which, while heavily pregnant in real life, she played a mum-to-be in lockdown.

Now, in ITV’s revealing documentary Sheridan Smith: Becoming Mum, which charts her pregnancy, she allows cameras into her quiet, countryside home as she opens up about her battle with anxiety and depression and reveals how motherhood has finally brought her happiness.

Here, Sheridan, 39, explains why she decided to make the emotionally candid film…

Congratulations on the birth of baby, Billy! How are you finding being a mum?
