Happy feet hit the beach!

Penguins are no strangers to documentaries. But in a change from fights for survival in the freezing temperatures of the Antarctic, a new Netflix series introduces us to a cute colony of endangered African penguins, who love nothing better than hitting sun-soaked beaches – and causing mischief and mayhem!

In Penguin Town, a humorous yet insightful eight-part series launching this week, cameras follow the penguins over one incredible season as they descend on the balmy seaside resort of Simon’s Town near Cape Town in order to nest and raise their young, as well as mingle with beachgoers and hold up local traffic.

‘The takeover begins every November as penguins arrive in waves,’ explains American comedian and actor Patton Oswalt, 52, who narrates the series.

‘Numbers are declining, though, and they have six months to complete their most important mission: Choose a partner, stake a claim to some territory, and make more penguins.’

Here, we introduce some of the standout stars of the show…
