7 THINGS STRICTLY has taught me

1 STRICTLY UK IS STRICTER!

‘I’ve worked on both the UK and South Africa versions of Strictly, and the production values on the UK show are on a different scale. In South Africa, we create an amazing show but here, Strictly is bigger – and much shinier! I do love a bit of sparkle! That’s actually how I got into dancing – a sparkly jacket caught my eye.

‘The judges are stricter here, too. You look at the dance CV of someone like Shirley Ballas and you understand that you’re dealing with the crème de la crème of the ballroom world and they are always on point in their critique.’

2 CAROLINE’S INSPIRATIONAL

‘Caroline Quentin is the most amazing dance partner. She’s a hard worker, has determination and is a real inspiration – she’s showing that Strictly can be tackled by anyone, of any age.

‘She has pushed me to be a better teacher because she wants to do so well. It’s more than just dancing with Caroline. She’s become a mama to me, as well as a friend, sister and nurturer; there’s always coffee and she scolds me when I don’t eat!’
