Troubled TV cops are not exactly rare, but the two damaged detectives at the heart of BBC1’s new crime thriller Dublin Murders are more haunted than most.
Based on Tana French’s first two Dublin Murder Squad novels, the chilling drama has been adapted by Sarah Phelps, who penned BBC1’s recent Agatha Christie adaptations And Then There Were None and The ABC Murders.
The eight-part series is set in 2006 and centres on English homicide detective Rob Reilly (Killian Scott) and Irish cop Cassie Maddox (Sarah Greene), who are called in to investigate when the body of teenage ballerina Katy Devlin is found lying on an ancient altar in woods outside Dublin.
But while issues surrounding Katy’s family, plus an archaeological dig in the area, raise suspicions, detective Rob and Cassie are more concerned about possible links to a previous unsolved mystery that took place in 1985.
