His 1972 masterpiece The Godfather was voted the best film of all time by Empire magazine readers, and endorsed by fellow director Stanley Kubrick as ‘possibly the greatest movie ever made’.
This week, American director Francis Ford Coppola is the subject of the Sky Arts documentary series The Directors as it returns for a fifth series.
As well as his Godfather trilogy and Vietnam film Apocalypse Now, Coppola also ventured into horror with Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and children’s films with Jack – which starred the late Robin Williams – with mixed results.
