Walton Goggins is a fixer for the deep state as the spy thriller returns…

Deep Danger

Conspiracy thriller Deep State is back on our screens this week, featuring new characters and locations that delve into the machinations of a shadowy intelligence network.

While season one followed ex-MI6 agent Max Easton (Mark Strong) on the run from his former bosses in the Middle East, this next eightpart chapter focuses on a dirty war for clean energy in Africa.

Justified star Walton Goggins takes the lead this time as ex-CIA operative Nathan Miller, who is deployed by the deep state to secure a deal allowing US forces into Mali, a country brimming with natural resources that are highly valuable to the West.

As the plot splits between two different timelines, fans will see the backstories of some familiar faces, including MI6 agent George White (Alistair Petrie), who killed himself in season one after the weight of his actions became too much to bear.

‘Half of the story takes place two years earlier, so how the characters interface with each other is the mystery of the show,’ says Goggins.
