WHEN PENNYWISE MADE his big screen debut in 2017’s IT, he was only ever due to have two cinematic outings. But then the first chapter became the highest-grossing horror film of all time… So, as the concluding part of Stephen King’s demonic clown masterpiece is released on shiny disc, the man behind the mask – Bill Skarsgård – isn’t quite sure the nightmare is over.
“This is, from what we know at least,” he quickly adds, “the end of a chapter, in terms of me and Andy [Muschietti, director], who have been working on these past two movies for the last couple of years. This is the end. It’s saying goodbye to a character.”
Hang on – we all know it’s never really goodbye in horror movies… Skarsgård laughs. “Not when it comes to money movies, I guess. If you have a success, they’re going to milk 14 out of them!”
There’s no hesitation when asked if he’d ever slip into the clown costume again.
