THE LAST TIME WE SAW THE space family Robinson, they were adrift once more, lost in a brand new galaxy. Separated from their friends on the Resolute and without even Will’s mysterious robot BFF to help, the situation looked bleak. Danger, danger indeed…
But all is not lost, as showrunner Zack Estrin tells SFX on set in Vancouver. Season two of Netflix’s ambitious reboot will see bigger threats to the castaways – not to mention some ambitious location shooting – but it will also see the troubled family united in their struggle to survive, as well as adventure on a grander scale. “The first few episodes, in particular, come in with a really great amount of spectacle and fun. It is a truly big thing this season.”
GROWING UP
“It’s interesting to look at second seasons of shows,” muses Estrin, standing with SFX in the hangar bay of the Jupiter – actually a standing set in the city’s Bridge Studios, formerly home to the Stargate franchise. “You want to find a way to have them grow without changing them too much. We’ve all seen shows where it’s been like, ‘Oh, I loved season one, but then season two just became too different’.”
