On Sept. 13 Felicity Huffman sat anxiously inside a federal courtroom in Boston waiting for a judge to announce her sentence. Last May she pleaded guilty to paying disgraced admissions consultant Rick Singer $15,000 to have a proctor change her daughter Sophia’s SAT answers after she took the test. As the verdict was read out loud—14 days in prison, a $30,000 fine, 250 hours of community service, plus supervised release for a full year after serving— Huffman’s husband, William H. Macy, 69, walked over to the defendant’s table and rubbed his wife’s shoulders and hugged her from behind. Huffman reached up and held his hand, and later Macy consoled her, saying, “It’s okay.”
