The face of a hybrid sound designed for the dancefloor, Purple Disco Machine is primed and ready for Dubai.

Full-On Funk

Every year one artist comes along and grabs a genre by the scruff of the neck and in the process carves out a niche for themselves in an ever-saturated world of beats. In 2015 that artist was Purple Disco Machine and that genre was deep funk.

For the uninitiated, deep funk in its modern sense is an upbeat mix of disco and house aimed straight at the dancefloor and Purple Disco Machine – aka Dresden-born producer Tino Piontek – has been a leading light in the ever-growing popularity and resurgence of discotinged house music ever since.

Piontek came to prominence a few years previous when his track My House was released via Andre Crom’s Berlin-based Off Recordings to wide acclaim. It scooped the No.1 spot in the Beatport deep house charts and peaked at No.3 in the overall charts. Proving that he was no one-trick pony, his collaboration with fellow chart botherer Teenage Mutants, The Path, on esteemed Spanish label Suara also went straight in at No.1 in Beatport’s deep house charts.
