As many fans and lovers of good music will know, 1968 was a significant year for outstanding music. Jimi Hendrix had released Electric Ladyland, Eric Clapton was playing with Cream, and Led Zeppelin had just released their debut album. It was also in 1968 that the 17-year-old Paul Kossoff would join forces with bassist Andy Fraser, drummer Simon Kirke and lead singer Paul Rodgers to form the band Free. The group started out relentlessly touring the UK and Europe, working the blues clubs before quickly graduating to ballrooms. They found the market tough by all accounts, even though they had carved a respectable live following.
