August 2020

After twenty years in showbiz, Abhishek Bachchan is now set to venture into new ground with a OTT series Breath: Into the Shadows. The reports so far have been excellent. But the actor isn’t getting distracted by them. His focus is on his work. He’s more settled as an actor, as a man. Marriage and fatherhood have completed him. Excerpts from a free-ranging interview with the actor, who is raring for many more milestones to come his way...

Movies or digital platform... it's the audience that matters, says Abhishek Bachchan

How did you spend these three months of lockdown?

I spent them at home. Where else could you go? I looked upon it as a blessing because I got to spend quality time with my family, which I get to do rarely. The whole family was together after so long and for such a huge period of time. It was nice to have everyone under one roof.

The trailer of Breathe: Into The Shadows has got a massive response. What’s the best compliment you have received so far?

Maine na to feedback dekha hai aur na hi kisi se poochha hai. (I haven’t seen the feedback, nor have I asked anyone about it). Chupchap kaam kar raha hoon. Achcha kaam karunga to log use sarahenge, kharab kaam karunga to log thokenge. (I just want to do my work quietly. If it’s good people will appreciate me, if it’s bad, I’ll get berated for it). It’s as simple as that. So I don’t want to know the reaction of the people. I will see the reaction once the show is out. Right now, I just want to do my best. I have done my best in terms of performance. Jo kuch bhi meri kabiliyat thi, koshish ki hai ki usse dikhaun. (I have tried to give the best I’m capable of). I’m dubbing the English version of Breathe: Into The Shadows simultaneusly. I want to do the best I can. Once it is out and people see the end product in entirety, then I want to hear what they have to say.

Did you feel emotional playing the father of a daughter...since you are one in real life too...

Hindi Cinema has always been a land of great villains. Many of these villains have also enjoyed a lot of fan following. The tradition of villainy in Hindi cinema owes a lot to the folkloric traditions that abound in plentiful images of highly stylized images of larger-than-life villains.

Alia Bhatt calls saree India's little black dress; says she feels most comfortable and herself in the traditional drape

In an interview, Alia Bhatt called sarees the Indian version of the little black dress, highlighting their comfort and versatility, and her love for it. Alia Bhatt, like every other Indian, is obsessed with sarees. If you are of desi origins, at least once in your lifetime, or even multiple times, you would have raided your mother or grandmother's closet to steal one of their sarees to wear to an event or a festival. That is the rage of sarees in India. In a recent interview with Vogue, Alia highlighted this fact and characterised the traditional Indian saree as a versatile garment comparable to the western 'little black dress (LBD)' due to its comfort and adaptability. Let's find out what she said.
