Binge eating is a potentially life-threatening disorder, especially if it is not addressed promptly. It is characterised by recurrent episodes of overeating. A binge eating episode is frequently followed by intense humiliation, anxiety or guilt in many individuals. It can also result in undesirable compensatory behaviours such as purging and forced vomiting of the consumed food.

“The stress and strain of work prevent one from eating on time, and, as a result, we tend to frequently binge on junk food,” says Nina Maria Saldanha, Executive Nutritionist with Cloudnine Group of Hospitals, Sahakar Nagar, Bengaluru. “This culture has been further enabled by online food platforms, which allow us to stay safely at home, but have also enabled a culture of snacking and binge eating.”
