BACK TO SCHOOL. Not quite yet, I know, but those were the signs I distinctly remember seeing in the windows of the gone, but not forgotten, Woolies in the Broadway of Leigh on Sea. You’d break up from school, you’d limp across the finish line of the summer term, with all the work done and with six whole weeks of holidays stretching out before you, then, bang, ‘Back to School’ signs hanging in shop windows the very next day!
