WHEN ONE HEARS THE TERM “PERIOD piece,” things like duck races and voguing don’t instantly spring to mind.
But that’s why, in part, Yorgos Lanthimos’ delightfully eccentric, coal-black comedy is so unique. “His imagination is radical, fierce, bold, intensely original,” says star Rachel Weisz of her director. “There’s no explosions or CGI or spaceships, but—as low-tech as it is—it’s high-, high-, high-caliber imagination.”
