JAMES MATTHEWS makes time for the gem in Norwich city centre
NOW I’VE moved back to the Fine City I’m lucky enough to be able to walk to and from work every day. Being on the east side of the city means I can cut through the grounds of Norwich Cathedral if I have the time.
While it takes a good ten minutes longer, when the alternative is a walk down Prince of Wales Road you can understand why I often prefer the scenic route. Stepping through the imposing Ethelbert Gate really is a step back in time, the serenity of the cathedral grounds a stark contrast to the bustle of Tombland. The statue-filled green in front of the cathedral’s main entrance is an immediate reminder of the area’s historical significance, while the buzz of worshippers heading to daily services and workers darting between surrounding businesses tells you that this is still a living, breathing part of our city.
