IP (Internet Protocol) does not vie for any introduction anymore—it has claimed its position as one of the most disruptive media technologies, and rightfully. IP, as we all know, is a set of rules, which govern the format of the data transmitted over the internet. IP allows providers to do a lot of things quickly, with room for advancement. This means a better viewing experience for consumers. Sending live feeds over IP through the cloud to studio talent, remote live production can be made easier, allowing production teams to deliver commentary on events happening anywhere in the world while lowering production costs and enabling broader scalability and distribution.
For the past three decades, the television industry has been dominated by two major technology transitions. The first accounts for the digitisation of video delivery—analog to digital—to deliver video to consumers using digital technology. The second— the shift from SD to HD. HD has penetrated the television market to the extent that virtually all new professional equipment and services are designed to support HD resolution. Then came the IP disruption.
The shift in consumer pattern in terms of availability and accessibility has especially been handled by the widespread use and employment of IP. It is a more open technological approach to traditional IT networking, giving the basic building blocks of the network infrastructure a facelift. The global live IP broadcast equipment market was valued at USD 859.1 million in 2018; it is expected to reach USD 2,670.1 million by 2025.
