Last year Secret World Wildlife Rescue in East Huntspill rescued and rehabilitated 74 owls. Animal carer DAN BRYANT takes us through the 10 steps to rehabilitation, from rescue to release
1 When an injured or orphaned owl is found and brought to Secret World, a trained animal carer assesses it on arrival, examining the bird for injuries and checking its weight, body and feather condition.
2 The owl gets a full eye check to make sure its eyes aren’t damaged or ulcerated. This is very important because any imperfections will seriously impact the bird’s ability to fly and hunt in low levels of light.
