Celebrating English Wine Week

Sip, Sip, Hooray!

Wine buff and food & drink journalist, Jeremy Dixon, has sipped his way through many global wines, but with a flourishing industry of English wines, this month, Jeremy pops the cork on the vineyards of the South West; home to some globally competitive and award-winning wines...

There are over 500 commercial vineyards in England and Wales today and 136 of them are in the South West. Not since the Roman conquest has English wine had it quite so good.

There must be something magical about the South West wine regions; Australia’s Margaret River, Bordeaux and now the South West of England, are all world-renowned.

Decades ago, in the early stages of its modern revival, there were just a handful of English vineyards and the only grapes grown successfully were the likes of Huxelrebe, Reichensteiner, Madeleine Angevine and Müller-Thurgau; those least familiar to the nascent wine-drinking public.
