Born out of a simple question, i.e., how can we make personal safety community-baseda, just like the way Truecaller’s community protects each other against spam, scams and fraud, Guardians is a Personal Safety and Location Sharing app from Truecaller.

Available on: (iOS 12.1), (OS 6.0)
After building an app that reveals the identity of a caller so that one can be protected from spammers and fraud callers, the team behind the Truecaller has now come up with a personal safety app called Guardians. While making the announcement, the company said, “Guardians was born out of a simple question, i.e., how can we make personal safety community based, just like the way Truecaller’s community protects each other against spam, scams and fraud?”
HOW GUARDIANS WORKS:
Setting up the Guardians app is pretty straightforward. You can sign in with one tap if you’re already a Truecaller user. Otherwise, your phone number will be verified using a missed call or OTP.
Once your phone number is verified, the app will prompt you to enter personal details like name and birth year and seek your permission to access your contacts, location, and phone permission. The app needs access to your contacts so you can select and invite your personal contacts to be your guardians; location so your guardians can track your location when you ask for or raise an emergency alert; and phone permission to show your phone status to your selected guardians.
As a user of Guardians mobile app, you are in complete control at all times. You can choose when to stop/start sharing location and even set up permanent sharing with selected personal contacts that have accepted your invitation to be your guardians. But it should be noted that if you choose to share your location forever with a guardian, they’ll be able to see your last seen time, distance, locality address, battery percentage, and cellular connectivity status. They also get an option to call or text you on the same screen.
Well, if you’re just sharing your location for a particular trip, the Guardians app works quietly in the background. And, in case you find yourself in any unsafe or emergency situation, you just need to tap the emergency button to notify all your guardians about your location and situation.
There are probably hundreds of apps on the app stores for personal safety and location sharing. But none of them work in a way where you can involve your family, friends, the community at large and the authorities.

DIFFERENT MODES FOR DIFFERENT SITUATIONS
In Emergency mode, your guardians will be notified and they’ll be able to precisely follow your location, know when you’ve reached your location, or be able to send help.
In the future, Emergency mode—as mentioned by the Truecaller in the official blog post—will also have the ability to share your location with volunteer guardians who may be in the vicinity where you’re seeking help. However, accepting help from the community is your choice. Not just that, the app will also enable you to send emergency alerts to the local law enforcement authorities, ensuring they send you help at the earliest.

Break Away From Android and iOS: 7 Free Open-Source Mobile OSes
Silicon Valley has long preached that technology, not truth, will set you free. The jury is still out on that. For instance, although smartphones have dramatically changed our world, they come with some serious drawbacks.
