Make A Great First Impression
DISCOVERY GIRLS|Summer 2017

What exactly makes a first impression great? Is it your entrance or your outfit? Is it how you speak or where you’re from? Is it random luck? The basics apply: stand up straight, look people in the eye, and smile. But if you really want to impress people and show that you’re likely to be a good friend or a super student, there are a few more things you can do. Here, we’ll show you!

1. Slip on that other girl’s sneakers, why don’t you?

The first step to making a good first impression? Put yourself in the other person’s shoes! But not, you know, literally. You’ll stay in your Converse One Stars, please, because putting yourself “in her shoes” just means taking a minute to think about the other person’s life. It’s an instant message to her that you’re interested in people and, right now, you’re interested in her.

It works like this: Remember the last time you met someone who you thought was fun or funny, or who you simply wanted to know? That person probably seemed genuinely excited to meet you. And didn’t that make you feel good? When you put yourself in someone else’s world, you can make her feel just as good! Here are three examples of “wearing her shoes.”

Friends: You’re meeting your best friend’s cousin, and your BFF is always talking about her cute clothes. When you meet her, why not tell her you can’t wait to talk fashion and see what her cousin’s been buzzing about? She’ll love the compliment, and soon you’ll have plans to bond over sneakers and sweaters.
