Perched on a bench in the backyard of their Santa Barbara mansion, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their first joint US primetime TV appearance on September 22 to celebrate Time magazine’s annual list of the world’s most influential people. Though the couple failed to make the cut this year, they used their segment to spotlight the importance of voting in the US election.

“Every four years, we’re told, ‘This is the most important election of our lifetime.’ But this one is,” said Meghan, 39. “It’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity,” added Harry, 36. “What we consume, what we’re exposed to, and what we engage with online, has a real effect on all of us.”
