Over five years in the late noughties, the live-in girlfriends of Hugh Hefner kept us entertained with their crazy antics and lavish lives on The Girls Next Door. But now the stars of the hit reality series are breaking their silence in a new docuseries and exposing the shocking abuse that really went on behind the glitzy closed doors.

For decades, the Playboy magazine publisher’s luxury mansion – which had 29 bedrooms, a private zoo and dozens of swimming pools – was known as the most famous party house in the world. While a series of seemingly endless beautiful Playmates rubbed shoulders with the who’s who of Tinseltown, their lives weren’t as fun and carefree as we imagined.

“I felt like I was in a cycle of gross things and didn’t know what to do,” Hefner’s former girlfriend Holly Madison, 42, explains in the 10-part series Secrets of Playboy. She went on to compare her life in the opulent home to living in a prison.

“You had a 9pm curfew, you were encouraged to not have friends over,” she explained. “You weren’t really allowed to leave unless it was, like, a family holiday.”
