The final tweet shared to actor Chadwick Boseman’s Twitter account was posted late in the evening on August 28 (US time). “It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman,” it announced. “Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV … He died in his home with his wife and family by his side.”

As the world reeled in shock and rushed to pay him tribute, the tweet soon broke records as the most liked post in the history of the platform. Boseman, who died aged 43, leaves behind long-time love Taylor Simone Ledward, whom he secretly married before his passing. The pair were first spotted together in 2015 and he reportedly popped the question in Malibu in October 2019 as he battled his terminal illness.

Best known for playing the lead role in Black Panther, Boseman leaves behind an impressive and important cinematic legacy. During his career, he played several iconic Black pioneers, including boundary-busting baseball player Jackie Robinson in 42, soul legend James Brown in Get on Up and the first Black Supreme Court Justice in Marshall.
