Unlike her character Dintle, Mapaseka knows how to run a business – in 2018 she opened her Gorge Grab n Go restaurant in Sandton, Johannesburg.
The corporate takeover at Nyathi Family Holdings (NFH) was swift and almost effortless, but we’d advise new CEO Dintle (Mapaseka Koetle) to watch her back – ousted boss Layla (Natasha Sutherland) isn’t going to let the throne slip from her grip that easily. When the determined but naïve Dintle set her sights on Layla’s throne at NFH in November this year, many simply rolled their eyes and made a few snide remarks under their breath. So when Dintle took Layla’s place as the big boss, everyone was stunned – most of all Layla. “I’ll give it to her – Dintle is clever in a sneaky and underhanded way,” Natasha admits. “She saw a gap and she took that opportunity. Dintle didn’t earn the position by paying her dues, but rather by cashing in on opportunities – fate fell her way.”
So how did the all-powerful Layla lose her position in just a matter of weeks? Mostly, desperation is to blame as Layla found herself having to urgently sell her majority shares at NFH to pay back past debts. This left Layla vulnerable and Dintle, as Natasha puts it, was “like a shark smelling blood in the water”. By the time Layla became aware of Dintle circling her, it was too late. The queen had fallen. “I would definitely say that Layla was blindsided. I think her belief that one must pay one’s dues to climb the corporate ladder meant it was an incredulous notion that someone like Dintle, who has the vision but not the experience nor the foundation, could be handed so much power,” Natasha further explains. To add insult to injury, Dintle is family, making the betrayal far worse. “Dintle is the mother of Layla’s grandchild, which means Layla never expected this particular backstabbing coup to be perpetrated by a member of her family,” Natasha says.
