WHAT HAPPENED TO Princess Charlene?
Star|December 20, 2021
SHE WENT MISSING FOR MONTHS — AND IS NOW IN AN UNDISCLOSED TREATMENT FACILITY FOR ‘EXHAUSTION.’ PRINCE ALBERT OF MONACO’S WIFE HAS REMAINED A MYSTERY AMID MEDICAL ISSUES, RUMORS OF HIS INFIDELITY AND MARITAL DISCORD.
WHAT HAPPENED TO Princess Charlene?

Princess Charlene’s long-awaited return to Monaco following her mysterious nine-month disappearance to her native South Africa was a welcome one. “Happy day today,” the wife of Prince Albert wrote on Instagram on Nov. 8 alongside a photo of her with Albert and their 6-year-old twins Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques. But her homecoming celebration was short-lived. Just 11 days later, Albert revealed that Charlene had entered a treatment facility outside of Monaco. “It became pretty evident that she was unwell,” the 63-year-old said. “She was clearly exhausted, physically and emotionally.”

The physical toll of her time away was evident. The former Olympic swimmer was stooped and emaciated. And while the Prince of Monaco declined to offer specifics on Charlene’s current condition, insiders tells Star there’s far more to the story than he’s letting on — and that behind the scenes, the 43-yearold lives a tortured existence with few friends, little support and major issues in her 10-year marriage. The biggest: In December 2020, a Brazilian woman claimed the notorious playboy — who fathered two children out of wedlock prior to marrying Charlene — got her pregnant in 2005, five years into his romance with Charlene. “The cheating is humiliating,” says the source, “and there’s talk that the real reason she left Monaco was because of Albert. She’s clearly quite miserable in her marriage.”
