YOUNG AND RESTLESS

In Loving Memory

Y&R’s special episode dedicated to celebrating Neil Winters’s legacy (and by proxy, that of his beloved portrayer, the late Kristoff St. John) was a lovely, poignant trip down memory lane that also enhanced the relationships left in the wake of his death two years ago. The tribute — a walking tour of Neil’s favorite haunts in Genoa City, set to a soundtrack of his favorite jazz tunes curated by his kids — set the stage for important conversations. Better yet, it was peppered with well-chosen flashbacks that beautifully showcased Neil as father, friend, brother and businessman. From Ashley to Nikki to Nate, each character had the chance to reflect on what Neil meant to them, and the lesson they stood to learn from losing him, and the hour ended with those who loved him leaving flowers by his newly unveiled portrait in Chancellor Park and his children coming together in a tearful embrace. It was a powerful way to close out a rewarding and emotional show that proved cathartic not just to the fictional players of Genoa City, but to the audience, as well.

REAL-LIFE DAYS DUO'S ENGAGEMENT STORY

Arianne Zucker (Nicole) says she was “pleasantly surprised” when longtime beau Shawn Christian (ex-Daniel, DAYS) popped the question on Father’s Day. “Of course we’ve had conversations about a ring and things like that, but I didn’t really expect him to do the whole thing,” she begins. “I thought, ‘Oh, maybe he’ll just give me a promise ring over dinner someday.’ I literally didn’t think he was going to say what he said or do what he did. It was sort of like, ‘We’re not broke, don’t fix it. We have a great thing going.’ ”

MEET GH'S NEW SPENCER

Nicholas Chavez made his Port Charles debut as Spencer Cassadine on July 1, but the Denver native’s journey to GH actually began back in April, when he sent in a self-tape audition. Shortly thereafter, “My manager reached out and said, ‘Hey, they’d like you to screen-test out in Los Angeles,’ which was amazing news and is kind of unusual in the industry, because it’s usually a self-tape, then an audition and then a callback and then you go screentest. To jump right from A to Z was a pretty daunting experience, and it all happened maybe within the span of a week.”

B&B: CARTER CAN'T QUIT QUINN

Though they’re supposed to be keeping their distance, Carter and Quinn can’t keep their hands off each other, and the guilt is getting the best of Carter. “They just feel safe with each other,” explains Lawrence SaintVictor (Carter). “No matter how much they try to deny each other — and they do try — they just can’t stop. Whatever this is, it is not going to just disappear, and they don’t know how to shake it. It’s impacting their personal lives, and their relationships with their family and friends. They just can’t put a stop to these feelings.”
