WHEN Dorothee Adjakidjie was born, doctors were shocked: the tiny tot was neither a little girl, nor a little boy. Born with the genitals of both sexes, Dorothee has lived all of her life ashamed of her body and confused over her real gender.

Recently the 28-year-old finally received gender re-assignment surgery – an operation that would never have been possible without the support of a non-profit organisation that is helping transform the lives of countless people living in disadvantaged areas across Africa.
