Courteney Cox will forever be synonymous with Monica Geller, as millions of us recalled when we tuned in to see Friends: The Reunion last year. But the 57-year-old actress has another iconic persona and it’s one she’ll be returning to this year, as she reprises her role as Gale Weathers in the latest instalment of the Scream horror franchise.
The new film is the first for more than 10 years and will see Courteney once again star alongside Neve Campbell and her ex-husband, David Arquette. Decades have passed since the Alabama-born actress made her debut in both Friends and Scream in the 1990s, but it’s clear that Courteney is delighted to be revisiting her acting past.
“It was so emotional,” she says of the Friends reunion. “We got to be on Stage 24 [where Friends was filmed] for the first time, all of us, in like 17 years. Everything came up that I had forgotten about. We had a lot of special surprises and it was fantastic.”
When Friends premiered in 1994, Courteney was considered the only “name” among the unknowns in the cast as the then 30-year-old already had film and TV roles behind her. However, it had been a long and difficult journey.
