Former Coronation Street star Sherrie Hewson, 69, has been left heartbroken after her brother, Brett Hutchinson, 71, tragically passed away following an incurable brain tumour in April this year.
Sherrie, who lives close to her daughter and her three grandchildren in Lancashire, told OK!, “I just wish my brother was still here. I’m devastated, my heart is broken.”
Brett was diagnosed with a brain tumour in March 2019. A month later, he underwent a nine-hour operation to get rid of it, and just days later they found a blood clot which had grown in the cavity of the tumour.
Last Christmas was Sherrie’s final one with her beloved brother because in January this year, Brett was diagnosed with a second tumour. Sherrie said, “That was the end, I felt like my whole world had collapsed.”
When coronavirus hit the UK and lockdown began, Sherrie wasn’t allowed to the hospital any more and Brett deteriorated. He passed away in April.
Sherrie hit rock bottom and if it hadn’t been for her 35-year-old daughter, Keeley, she wouldn’t have got through it. Sherrie told OK!, “She’s the absolute love of my life. She’s my rock. She’s like the mum. She’s always taking care of me, looking after me. She’s everything I need.”
Here, we join Sherrie, Keeley and two of the children at Haigh Hall in Lancashire to chat about losing her brother and her incredible mother-daughter bond...
Sherrie, you’ve had a tough year. How are you?
