EMMERDALE’S AMY WALSH AND EASTENDERS’ TOBY-ALEXANDER SMITH EXCLUSIVELY SHARE THEIR PREGNANCY JOY WITH OK!
KIRSTY HATCHER
Until recently, Amy Walsh and Toby-Alexander Smith have kept their relationship largely under wraps, rarely attending events together or posting snaps on social media. But now the couple are ready to open up and share some special news.

“We’re so excited about becoming parents,” smiles Emmerdale actress Amy, who plays Tracy Metcalfe. “It felt magical,” adds Toby, who plays EastEnders villain Gray Atkins, of the moment they found out.

The soap stars met back in November 2019 in the most showbiz of settings, sitting in the front row of the audience at Strictly Come Dancing. While Toby was there supporting his co-star Emma Barton, Amy was cheering on her former castmate and eventual winner Kelvin Fletcher, with her singer-sister Kimberley Walsh.

The connection between them was instant, and just four months later, when the UK went into lockdown, the pair had to decide whether or not to move in together. They took the leap and the gamble paid off – and it’s safe to say now they can’t wait for the next chapter of their lives.

Here, Toby, 30, and Amy, 34, whose baby is due at Christmas time, open up about telling their co-stars the happy news, and why Amy wasn’t sure becoming a mum would ever happen for her…

Congratulations on the lovely news, guys!

Amy: We’re so excited. It feels as though the way everything happened was meant to be. I thought I might struggle with fertility, so for pregnancy to happen quite easily and when I wanted – I was gobsmacked. We feel incredibly lucky.

What made you think you would struggle?

Amy: I was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome at 20, so I always thought falling pregnant was going to be a battle. It’s something you feel you have to tell someone when you meet them, because you feel like you need to warn them. Toby knew how worried I was, especially as I’m a bit older. I did wonder if it would ever happen for me, so it feels like a blessing.

Were you trying?

Amy: It was planned but we thought it might take a lot longer than it did [laughs]! After telling Toby about my fertility issues and saying it could take ages, it happened in two months.

Toby: With a baby I think there’s never a perfect time. You could always think, “We could do with a bigger house or investing more time in our careers,” but if you’ve met the right person then that’s it.

Tell us about the moment you found out…
