The judges have found her performances on Dancing On Ice spine-chillingly good, so it’s no surprise that Faye Brookes is one of the favourites to win. And in our chat with the former Coronation Street star, who is partnered with pro skater Hamish Gaman, it’s clear she’s loving being part of the ITV show.
“It’s given me purpose back,” she says, referring to having endured a year of lockdowns.
And as well as her skating journey giving her reason to be cheerful, the 33-year-old is loved-up with boyfriend and personal trainer Joe Davies, who she says is her “best support system”.
When she’s not wowing on the rink, the couple live together in Manchester with their two adorable pooches, Bear and Bao. “I don’t think I’ve ever been in a relationship that’s this effortless,” she says.
Here, Faye tells new all about her competitive streak, how skating has affected her body and her connection to Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor…
Hi, Faye. We’re loving you on Dancing On Ice. Are you quite competitive?
I am. I’m the worst person to be against if you’re playing anything. I don’t like to be competitive but I just want to get the best out of every situation. It’s not even about the winning, I want to get the best out of it.
Have you managed to bond with the other celebs on the show?
We haven’t had much social time together. When it comes to Covid-19 restrictions, even when we are doing the group numbers we have to socially distance. There are lots of crew members around us reminding us to keep our distance. The last thing you want is for the show not to go ahead because we haven’t taken the rules seriously. So when it comes to backstage, I can only speak to Hamish or stay in my dressing room. But we all talk on a WhatsApp group and are supporting each other.
Is it true you want to lose a stone through training?
