Since making the nation swoon when she stepped into the Love Island villa last year as a total bombshell, Demi Jones’ life has changed completely.
The 22-year-old may not have found lasting love on the hit ITV2 dating show but she’s carved out a successful career as an influencer – and she has just launched her own clothing line with Missguided.
But while her work life may be going from strength to strength, Demi recently revealed the news that she’s battling thyroid cancer.
After having surgery to remove the cancerous lump, Demi tells me she will have a second operation this week to have her thyroid taken out.
“I do have a real journey ahead of me. But it’s all treatable, so I should be absolutely fine,” she says.
Here, the inspirational reality star opens up about her brave cancer battle, coping with trolls and why her dating life has taken a backseat since Love Island...
Hi, hun. What’s the support been like since you bravely revealed that you’re battling thyroid cancer?
Absolutely overwhelming. I’ve just been inundated with so many messages, and so much love and support. Even when I’m out and about, people have been stopping me and asking how I’m getting on, so that’s really lovely. I’ve also had so many messages from people saying they’ve booked appointments or found lumps because of my story, so out of all of this I’m sure I’ll be able to save someone’s life – which is truly amazing.
Beyond all the public support, you’ve also had to call out some trolls online. What can be done to stop trolling for good?
