
People can be allergic to popular varieties of trees, like fir, pine and spruce, and those trees are sprayed with water during their trip from the farm to the lot, making them a major source of mold spores, according to Alabama-based allergist Dr. J. Allen Meadows.
But even artificial trees, which may release chemical fumes, can trigger allergy or asthma attacks when they’re first unwrapped, Meadows cautioned.
