Hi!BLITZ|March 2016

From slaying Twitter trolls to cutting a pop single, Sonakshi Sinha is making news beyond the silver screen. With two action films on the anvil that see her martial arts training put to use, the talented and always candid actress tells Farhad J Dadyburjor why she loves kicking ass (on and off screen), her schoolgirl crush on Hrithik Roshan that still continues and revelling in the power of being a woman.

Sonakshi Sinha’s in da house! After becoming one of the most sought-after actresses in Bollywood, she’s gone ahead and realised her childhood dream—that of being a singer. With the release of her funky pop single that even infuses some rap Aaj Mood Ishqholic Hai, are there plans now of cutting an album? “I would love to,” Sonakshi says. “This is a start... It’s a dream that I’ve harboured for the longest time since I was a child. I’ve always wanted to grow up and be a singer, sing on stage, do concerts and stuff,” she laughs, “so it was a dream that I had suppressed and put on the backburner.”

Inspired by pop icons like Adele, Beyonce, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus (“she’s crazy, she’s immensely talented”) and Lady Gaga (“she’s an all-rounder, she even does the lighting for her shows!”), Sonakshi goes on to add, “I want to cut an album someday, it’s on the cards, but because of my films I have to balance it out. I can’t suddenly just drop everything and do that. So as and when I get time, I want to collaborate with a lot of artistes from here and do stuff with them. Because I can’t compose my own songs, I will need good composers.”

It’s a trait that’s also been associated with Sonakshi, who often goes by the moniker Shotgun Jr. “I am very much like my father but I am mummy’s girl,” smiles the 28-year-old. “I think all his traits like confidence, personality, acting, all of that I get from him. But I am a little bit more diplomatic than he will ever be.”

In fact she had the social media universe in a tailspin when she hit back hard and shut-up a Twitter troll who had made derogatory.

She was also recently a part of the launch of her father’s memoir Anything But Khamosh: The Shatrughan Sinha Biography, along with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan. “I do not want to know certain details of my father’s life, he’s put everything in there!
