Sassy and Sexy... That's  Swara Bhasker believes Suman Sharma

In Perfect Tune
Bold and beautiful. That’s Swara Bhasker. The actor, who has never been apologetic about her opinions or roles, set social media on fire recently. Her starrer Veere Di Wedding (VDW), where she appears with Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor and Shikha Talsania, is among the top openers of 2018. The film, the first of its kind, has women discussing sex, cussing and above all showed Swara masturbating in a scene. Well, that made the trolls go ballistic. The actor’s timeline was inundated with hate messages and moral condemnation. Swara, as always, took it chin up. She believes it was time to pull female sexuality out of the closet. “I’m unsurprised. I was expecting to be trolled for that scene. India has largely a culture of silence around issues of female sexuality and desire. Many must have felt uncomfortable with that scene,” she says. “Also, I’ve a dedicated group of haters, who hate me for my opinions and for speaking out. So, I wasn’t surprised by the trolling,” she smiles. But she’s grateful for the support she garnered online, from the media and the audiences, against the hate. “It made me resolve to push boundaries further,” she says emphatically.

On a serious note she analyses, “Social media has given people the power to reach the biggest stars. People you would have only dreamt of... you can now tag them and reach them. Anonymity brings out people’s baser instincts. That’s why people troll celebrities - it gives them a perverse sense of power.”
